Penedo
(Boulder) House
1. IDEA
Located in the Douro Valley, overlooking the river, on the South margin, this holiday retreat is a place to reconnect a family with its roots and childhood memories of summers by the river.
The original stone house dated from the 1800’s and the rehabilitation aims at creating a space that preserves as much as possible of the existing stone structure, including the ‘penedo’, the large rock that makes up most of the West side of the house.

2. PROCESS
The house will be used primarily during summer and as such it is intended to be in harmony with the exterior areas, including pool, patio and garden.
To balance the cold, existing granite walls, warm south-facing light and warm colored decoration will help to soften the interior.
